Validation of MAMBA: World’s Smallest MIL-STD-1553 IC Solutions

Friday, August 28, 2015

Mission Viejo, CA (August 27, 2015) - Holt Integrated Circuits, a world leader in data bus IC’s for the avionics and military industries, today announced formal MIL-STD-1553 RT validation of MAMBATM, the world’s smallest family of MIL-STD-1553 / MIL-STD-1760 multi-terminal devices. Validation was performed at Test Systems, Inc., an independent Air Force approved testing service for MIL-STD-1553 remote terminals. A validation report is available on request.

The MAMBATM family is available in a 48-pin PQFP or 6mm x 6mm QFN package, providing various combinations of Bus Controller (BC), Monitor Terminal (MT) or Remote Terminal (RT) functions, with all options having a 40 MHz Serial Peripheral host Interface (SPI) and integrated dual 1553 transceivers on-chip.

The HI-6138 includes all terminal functions, BC, MT and RT. HI-6137, HI-6136 and HI-6135 include BC/RT, RT/MT and RT functions respectively. All devices have internal static RAM of 8K x 17-bit words and allow concurrent autonomous operation of their individual terminals, minimizing repeated host intervention. The RAM has built-in parity checking and provides the host CPU with an optional programmable interrupt. Each device may also be configured for automatic self-initialization via a dedicated SPI port from an external serial EEPROM memory.

“Validation by an approved third party gives our customers an assurance that our devices comply fully with the MIL-STD-1553 specification,” said Sean Sleicher, Director of Business Development at Holt. “This is an important requirement to enable final certification of their end systems”.

Leroy Earhart, President and CEO of Test Systems Inc. stated “Holt’s MAMBATM RT design passed all requirements of MIL-STD-1553 validation. I’m amazed at how small 1553 terminals have become in the last few years.”

Holt also provides a dedicated Development Kit for each device, which is available on request from Holt.
