Holt Integrated Circuits Integrates Transformers in World’s Smallest MIL-STD-1553 BC/MT/RT Solution

Wednesday, February 29, 2012

Mission Viejo, CA (February 29, 2012) – Holt Integrated Circuits, a world leader in data bus IC’s for commercial and military avionics, today gave advanced notice for the world’s smallest MIL-STD-1553 fully integrated terminal solution. The device, HI-2130, contains MIL-STD-1553 protocol logic, dual transceivers and dual transformers in a compact 15 x 15mm package.

The HI-2130 die is hermetically sealed on a ceramic BGA substrate and dual transformers are mounted in the same package. The ceramic substrate allows extended temperature operation from −55oC to +125oC, exceeding operating temperatures of competing integrated devices.

The device combines the functionality of Holt’s recently introduced HI-6130 and HI-6131, giving the user the choice of 16-bit parallel bus or SPI host interface in a single package. In addition, the new HI-2130 provides the added benefit of integrated transformers in a footprint smaller than the original HI-6130.

“This innovative solution will give customers a distinct advantage in their application,” said Anthony Murray, Director of Business Development at Holt.  “Customers will benefit from a smaller footprint, wider operating temperatures, higher reliability and much lower cost compared to competitive offerings.”

Each device contains a Bus Controller (BC), a Bus Monitor Terminal (MT) and two independent Remote Terminals (RTs). Any combination of the contained MIL‑STD-1553 functions can be enabled for concurrent operation. The enabled terminals communicate with the MIL-STD-1553 buses through integral dual bus transceivers and transformers. The user allocates 64K bytes of on-chip static RAM between terminals to suit application requirements.  The HI-2130 can also be configured for automatic self-initialization via a dedicated SPI port from an external serial EEPROM memory.

Holt is accepting enquiries now and plans to ship first samples by the end of March 2012.
